MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) -- A Nicaraguan journalist says the administration of President Daniel Ortega is persecuting his organization for its criticism of the government.

Carlos Chamorro Barrios tells a news conference the Nicaraguan government is persecuting his group.

Carlos Chamorro Barrios' Center of Media Investigations is one of 700 groups being investigated for alleged money laundering.

He called a news conference Wednesday to deny the allegations and accuse the government of trying to silence its critics.

He also asked the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights to monitor the legal case against him.

The government claims Chamorro Barrios is illegally channeling money from foreign governments to civil organizations in Nicaragua not legally allowed to receive such funds.

He is the son of former President Violeta Chamorro, and hosts daily and weekly news and analysis TV shows.
